SOL BADGUY
180+ | Male | Prototype Gear |
Neutral | Guilty Gear | Canon |
personality
♥ Protective;; Even with his distant, devil-may-care attitude, Sol is actually very protective of people he actually gives a damn about. Though usually expresses them in ways that only a few could know, he even goes as far as willingly risk his life to protect that one person, even vowing to himself that he'd go out of his way to save them.
♥ Iron-Will;; After living over a hundred years with constant headache, and seemingly endless battles, any normal man would've given up. Sol, however, stubbornly doesn't know when to quit. Such word has never been a part of his vocabulary and never will be.
♥ Intelligent;; Sol was a prodigy - if not a genius of the field that he had worked in. Not only was a scientist who worked on the Gear Project, but also, he developed the Magic Amplification weapons known as 'OutRage' to counter the Gears when they rampaged across the planet's surface. Not to mention, he's also a quite the tactician as he had led his own troops into battle as part of Sacred Order of Holy Knights.
♡ Loner;; Sol, even if he was surrounded by genius and like-minded colleagues much like himself, was a loner. He only had two friends that he could recall back in the days when he was still yet a human. To make the long story short, Sol is quite reserved with his thoughts and emotions, so getting him to open up is an extraordinarily difficult task. However... he's working on it.
♡ Stubborn;; Sol's mind is not something that can be easily changed when it's made up. Though that in itself could be a good thing, on the other hand, it's very difficult to dissuade him and make him accept other people's ideas or opinions. It took over a hundred for Sol to finally understand and accept the message that Aria was trying to convey to him so desperately before her death.
♡ Lazy;; "Do only when it needs to be done," That always has been Sol's philosophy in life. Even after a century, it hasn't changed a single bit, and the man barely puts effort into anything that he does. When faced with a choice, he'd pick something that is always the least strenuous on his part.

P.W.A.B. Report #9641
Investigation of this subject has unfortunately come to a complete halt. We are certain that in 2172 he joined the Sacred Order of Holy Knights, but later left and currently makes a living as a bounty hunter. Several witnesses claim that the subject does not age, which has lead to rumors he may be involved with the "Gear Project." It is unclear what his objectives are; however, there is evidence that he wants to destroy all gears. In regard to his combat abilities, all that really needs to be said is that he destroyed Justice. He has surpassed all human limits, and is said to be almost supernatural. Because we know so little about his background, and because controlling him would prove difficult, we give him a risk rating of S.

Like all heroes, Sol also had his own humble beginnings. Much his past may be shrouded in mystery and vague flashbacks. What is known for sure is that his name is Frederick, a genius scientist who previously worked on a project called: 'Saint Oratorio' before being transferred off to Gear Project for reasons in the year 2014. It is assumed that it was because of the two people that he had met previously: That Man, and his lover, Aria. The three was closely-knit, almost inseparable, even during the busy hours in their laboratories. However, during that development, Frederick was experimented on (most likely against his own will) by 'That Man' to become the Prototype Gear, but the experiment went awry, and Frederick managed to escape the clutches of once his former friend.
Betrayed, Frederick went into hiding for a long time and developed a Gear cell containment device (aka his headband) to keep his human appearance. Fast forward to about 30 years, and the US military managed to find traces of Gear Project, causing them to eye the project for military use with 'That Man' leading the rebirth of the failed research. However, Frederick quickly managed to find out what was happening and worked behind the shadows to sabotage, and destroy any efforts to produce, research and distribute the Gears. This earned him the nickname of 'Badguy' by several authorities.
However, seeing how the Gears were being produced faster than he could possibly destroy them, Frederick looked back to the old project that he had worked on before, the 'Saint Oratorio'. Using the research as basis, he made a super weapon called the 'OutRage'. Though powerful, it was completely impossible for Sol to control through normal means, much less with his human form. As such, he divided the weapon to eight pieces: Fuuenken [Fire Seal], Fuuraiken [Thunder Seal], Zessen [Surpressing Fans], Senga [Flashing Tooth], Ekitoku [Profiting Fervor], Kojouhaku [White on the Lake], and finally, a dagger, currently held by Slayer himself. These were eventually known as the 'Sacred Treasures'.
A year after their creation, a Commander-type Gear known as 'Justice' was activated in order to learn about the Backyard, but upon her awakening, a being - or a deity that was dubbed as 'Variable X' by 'That Man' began to manifest itself upon Japan using Justice's DNA. 'That Man', seeing how it would threaten the world should they be born, he forcibly took control over of the Commander Gear and fired the Gamma Ray over the Japan, effectively vaporizing its existence off of earth along with most of the Japanese populace. It is after this event that Justice was driven to a point of insanity and turned herself and the Gears all over the world against mankind.
This started the Crusades.
In retaliation against Justice's rampage, the United Nations formed the organization known as 'Sacred Order of Holy Knights'. Mages and warriors alike from all over the globe joined the organization to fight for the mankind's survival in hopes of stemming tides of inevitable extinction. The year by then was 2074.
Once again, in the shadows, Frederick worked behind the scenes in effort to ward off the Gear threat, and it was during this time when he met Kliff as a child in one of his guerrilla assaults against the Gears. It was through his actions that Kliff was inspired by to become a Knight himself to fight against the apocalypse, and it would be several years later before they meet once again, this time Frederick, now known as 'Sol Badguy' donning the uniform of a Holy Knight.
Sol was an unruly man amongst the Holy Knights, even under Ky's command, he seldomly listened to his orders and acted in whatever fashion that he thought it was right. This caused several sparks of bouts and arguments between the two, and already during his short stay in the Order, Sol began to dislike the way things were run. With that in mind, he began to work separately from his own troops, often leading a solo assault missions against the Gear's strongholds and crucial defensive points to make massive dents in their forces. At that time, Sol was considered the best fighter for the human side, and well-earned the respect of Kliff - as well as Ky, begrudgingly.
During the war, a Toxic-class Gear appeared in a remote village. Sol and Ky was immediately deployed to the ground zero of the battle. At the end, there was only a single survivor. A mysterious woman known as I-no was taken into the safety of arms into the organization and gave several information as to where the next Gear assault would start. Sol, still yet distrustful as ever, sensed a foul play within the woman's words and he took it personally to himself to personally investigate as to what the woman's intentions and origins were. This ended in a short skirmish, ending with Sol being detained by Ky into the brigs shortly after.
With Sol out of the picture, Ky took off after Rome to a location where the woman had informed him in hopes of warding off the Gears' assault before it could ever happen. However, this turned out to be a trap, and while hopelessly outnumbered, Ky ordered his men to retreat as he stayed behind to fend off the ambush alone. Normally, this would've killed him, but thanks to I-no's efforts, he was saved from his certain doom and had his memories were erased, effectively changing the course of the timeline. At the end, Sol managed to recover Ky, and they barely managed to escape Rome.
After this event, Sol encountered Justice for the first time in hopes of bringing an end to the devastating war once and for all. The battle took on a ferocious encounter, with magic spewing back and forth at each other, their weapons clashing against one another, sparks and fire flying everywhere all across the scenery. Despite the efforts of the ancient Gear, it promptly ended with Sol's defeat with Justice sparing him of his life, remarking him as a 'reckless human'. This battle frustrated Sol even further, and with a single-minded determination, he charged into the Sacred Order of Holy Knights' headquarters and stole Fuuenken, one of the Sacred Treasures that were being kept there.
Ky, much to his frustration caught Sol once again in the midst of the act, and the two promptly fought it out. At the outcome of the battle, Sol stood victorious, stronger than ever with Fuuenken held in his hand. At the year 2173, Sol Badguy officially left the Order to fight his own battles and it was after two years when Sol finally encountered Justice once again, and defeated her, buying Ky enough time to seal the Herald of Destruction away in a Dimensional Prison. It was at this year when the long, bloody war came to an end.
Though the story would have a happy ending, the worst was yet to come.
Eight years prior to the event, Sol mysteriously disappeared into the shadows once more, making a living as a bounty hunter, but upon hearing about the Sacred Order Tournament from a victim that he had incarcerated and killed, he smelled a controversy at play. With that knowledge, the ancient Gear joined the tournament, quickly made his way through the ladders, and found that the Testament, a former Knight of the Holy Order was the one behind the act. In order to stop Justice's revival, Sol defeated Testament with ease, but it was through his blood that the Commander Gear managed to escape from her dimensional prison.
Before Justice could reenact her revenge against mankind, Sol fought against Justice. However, even at the height of her power, the Flame of Corruption overcame the Herald and kept another Crusade from happening. Her death brought about a grim realization into Sol, however. Justice was his former lover, Aria. With a vengeful vow, Sol promised not only to himself, but also to those that have suffered at the cruel hands of fate, to kill 'That Man'.
Not long after the tournament, a half-Gear known as 'Dizzy' was discovered by the UN and had a bounty placed on her head. Sol, like any bounty hunters would went after it, but upon deeming that Dizzy was not threat to the world, he decided that he'd let her live out her peaceful life and went about his way. Her bounty, thereafter was claimed by none other than Jam Kuradoberi.
Meanwhile, Sol began to investigate the events behind the Second Sacred Order of the Holy Knights' selection tournament and found out that the PWAB [Post War Administration Bureau] was directly involved. In order to search for answers he tracked down I-no, That Man while investigating the remnants of the PWAB. This investigation led to him finding Crow, a member of that shadowy run-down organization. It was found that with the data that he had gathered from Justice's corpse, he'd been making copies of her. Like before, Sol managed to destroy the copy of the Herald, but the vile scientist escape his clutches before the building collapsed from the force caused by the battle.
This led to another encounter with I-no, who had been stringing him along to a trap so that they can travel to the past, and while his past self was at his most vulnerable, the time-traveling witch killed Sol. However, despite the time paradox caused by the event, Sol resisted from being erased by the history and obliterated I-no from where she stood, effectively returning him to his own time where Ky was waiting for him.
Ky, he too wanted answers for his questions, and this time settle the long years of grudge that he had against Sol. The bounty hunter agreed, and should he win, he'd go off on his own way. The young knight did battle against the ancient Gear with all he had, but even after years of refining his techniques and power, it was still not yet enough to defeat Sol. After the battle, Ky promised that he'd meet Sol again before they went off to their separate ways.
At 2184, Kingdom of Illyria was officially established and was officially recognized by UN, with Ky as their first king, Leo Whitefang as the second, and an unknown third. However, during his rule, Ky had an illicit relationship with Dizzy and Sin was born out of their love. Knowing that should public, or others gain knowledge as to what was going on behind the closed doors, the king decided to take the issue to the only person that he could trust only so begrudgingly. Sol Badguy.
Upon receiving the call, Sol came running into the Illyria's castle. Though he called Ky a fool, and an idiot for throwing his own responsibilities on someone else, Sol took Sin under his wing and raised him as if he were his own child, teaching him how to survive and read so that he may (somehow) blend in with the society one day. This, however, did not work out as easily as he had imagined when the early signs of Baptisma 13 incident had begun to occur. The incident caused several Gears to mysteriously disappear from left and right, and the word of it reached King's ears by the time when Vizuel Valentine attacked Illyria.
During this incident, a bounty poster was posted up for Sol, and the ancient Gear immediately figured out that it was Ky's way of asking for help. Shortly after, he was plagued by sudden headaches which caused 'feedback noises' in his head that he couldn't get rid of or tune out. Thereafter appeared two servants under Vizuel's command. The mysterious beings initially had the advantage, but thanks to the mysterious voice that suddenly appeared in his head and manage to tune his magical wavelength to be able to fight against them, Sol was able to quickly overwhelm his newest opponents.
The voice, later introduced as Izuna, a resident of the Backyard helped Sol to get a grasp of the situation as to what was truly going on, especially about the Gears suddenly disappearing. With urgency, the two headed to Illyria, and there he encountered Valentine once again and did battle, effectively driving her out despite Sol's rough control over his new powers using the Soul Sinker. After the skirmish, the group headed into the main castle, only to find Ky in a suspended animation via binding spell. Though unknown at the time as to who caused it, Sol assumed it was Raven, the only person who was present with the group at the time.
With belligerent anger burning in his heart, Sol fought ferociously against Raven to no avail. The two were equally matched, even after landing in his Tyrant Rave, the Undying Disease didn't flinch. Before the fight could truly end, Raven made note of Sol's newly acquired abilities and disappeared, causing the party to wonder about how they'd be able to dispel the sealing spell on the king. Even Sol with his genius intellect and knowledge in magic was not enough to set Ky free, and with Izuna's special recommendation to certain someone that he knew, Sol left Sin behind in order to find Dr. Paradigm.
The good doctor, however, shockingly enough was a Gear initially when Sol found him. Though mistrustful at first, but upon finding out that the bounty hunter was indeed Frederick, a scientist from over a hundred years ago, Dr. Paradigm agreed to help him to break the spell that imprisoned the king's body and mind. Though they managed to break the seal, Sol's party found out that this time, it was Sin that was kidnapped. With frustration mounting up, Sol and Izuna chased Vizuel all the way to Bel Canto Valley, only to find a brain-washed Sin who was protecting Valentine to cover her escape.
Already frustrated and stress mounting up, Sol beat the living senses back into Sin. This led them to cornering Valentine, and with nowhere to escape she left an army of her own behind to slow them down. Unable to avoid the fight, Sol braced himself to fight against an entire army with Sin and Izuna at his side - that is until Ky and Dr. Paradigm arrived with legions of knights of their own.
With Knights covering them and making the way so that Sol and his team could get through, the bounty hunter made his way to the gate - only to find an old colleague, 'That Man', standing in his way. A mere sight of him was enough to make the dragon enraged, and with murderous intentions, he unleashed all the powers that he could against him. The battle, however, was only his test and he informed Sol of Valentine's intentions. Though the ancient Gear did all he could to get as much information out of him as possible, but it was only a matter of time when That Man outlasted him, unscathed and Sol was left tired.
Before 'That Man' left, he tuned Sol's, Izuna's, Dr. Paradigm's and Sin's body so that they'd be able to survive the pressure of the Backyard's information, and when they caught up to Valentine, they saw that the key in the Cube was already in motion using Sin's own DNA. Upon their arrival, frustrated Vizuel was well intent on getting rid of them once and for all, and she transformed herself into a monstrous creature. Meanwhile Sin, Izuna and Dr. Paradigm fought against the ginormous enemy, Sol went around Valentine to analyze the key within the Cube so that he may prevent it from opening. Thanks to his quick thinking and intellect, Sol managed to stop the object from opening by simply 'breaking it', effectively making it inaccessible through same means ever again.
Defeated, Valentine no longer had a purpose and she collapsed, seemingly fully intent on destroying herself to take out the group. While others escaped, Sol stayed behind to fight against Valentine as she transformed herself into even more ominous, indescribably horrible thing. However, it wasn't just her body that he fought against, he also fought against her at the depths of her soul, where he saw her memories and the emotions that he had felt. The memories were not that of Valentine's, but of Aria's. Upon laying the finishing blow at her soul, which he had destroyed completely, Sol found himself in a white void of space, unable to return to the world.
That Man, however, had appeared to help once more. Whatever his plans may be, he sent him to an unfamiliar world that was called the 'Traverse Town'.
Abilities
• Experienced Fighter;; Sol, having lived for over a century, has fought against several types of opponents in his lifetime. Even though he never had any prior training, or the teachings from a master to base his attacks from, he developed his own techniques to suit his unique fighting style. While incredibly lazy, nonchalant and even unpolished, they are executed with absolute precision. Even in the PWAB (Post War Administration Bureau) describes him being almost 'supernatural' and as a being who had 'surpassed all human limits'. He is not someone who is to be underestimated or be taken lightly in battle.
• Pyrokinesis;; Infused with Gear cells, Sol's body had become naturally attuned to fire magic. He is capable of packing some serious firepower in a battle by combining the deadly ability into his attacks and even firing them off as destructive projectile attacks. This power is known to be increased by several times due to the Outrage he wields.
• Magic Arts;; Being a scientist who once studied magic and led a portion of the gear project for a time, Sol is near the level of a prodigy, if not a genius in that field. As such, he's capable of quickly analyzing and dispelling magic (If not outright break them, as seen when he broke the 'Cube' to keep it from opening in Guilty Gear 2: Overture), as well as activating various buffs or spells, like 'Crimson Jacket' to give him a defensive edge in battle.
• Overdrives;; Like many powerful fighters in his world, Sol has a few trump cards at his disposal. The Overdrives push one's magical ability to its very limits and execute it in a single, explosive force to leave their opponents in a world of massive hurt. One of the more famous ones that Sol is known to use is 'Tyrant Rave ver. β', an attack that he delivers a flaming punch against his opponent, followed by secondary, but a more destructive hit using his weapon that sends his enemy flying. Though rarely used, he also uses 'Savage Fang', a brutal assault that is performed by slamming his own weapon on the ground, and incinerates his opponents in blazing hellfire that rises out from the earth.
• Regeneration;; Gear cells originally weren't supposed to be used as weapons of war. Instead, they were meant to benefit humanity in such a way that they'd be able to cure just about any disease on the planet and increase their natural life expectancy. Sol, who was one of the leading scientists behind the Gear Project was infused with them by 'That Man', most likely against his own will. This gives him the benefit of regenerative powers on his part and some resistance against poison.
• Dragon Install;; If needed be, Sol could access the untapped part of his power in order to give him a massive power boost. For a short period of time, Sol transforms into his monstrous Gear form, and at this stage, he gains a massive increase in physical abilities, destructive potential of his magic, and regeneration. This, however, is not something that he uses often, because of the backlash from the magic. Though he can sustain it longer than it needs to be, but when using this ability - he not only fights against his opponent, but against himself from losing control. As such, he forces it back whenever he feels he's cutting it close, and afterwards, he's left with a terrible headache.
• Destroyer: Branding Breach;; If times call for it, Sol unleashes a move that he calls the 'Napalm Death'. It's a destroyer move, a technique that is made to utterly incinerate his opponent so that they'd never be able to stand up to fight again. To perform this technique, he crouches down on the ground and charges his magic before leaping high into the air, causing an infernal explosion that obliterates the surrounding area with a super massive firestorm. This technique is upped by several times if he uses this in conjunction with Dragon Install, but because this is such a powerful move, and requires much effort to pull off, it is not something that he does very often. Even if it were to be used, it'd be discussed by the party on the receiving end of it beforehand.
Weaknesses
○ Lazy;; Sol is an incredibly lazy person, the only time he puts effort into what he does when times actually call for it. Even then, a lot of the occasions it could be called his 'bare minimum'. This is especially expressed in the way he fights, the way he jabs, kicks, and throws his opponents. Due to his own laziness, Sol never reached the same level of martial prowess in terms of raw skill like Ky has, making the ancient Gear, even after over a hundred years, a diamond in the rough as stated by Slayer himself.
○ Ghosts of the Past;; Sol is constantly tortured by his past's ghosts, as well as his own sins. A mention of who - and what he once was makes him go off on a fit of rage and be consumed by his emotions, resulting in him to make rash and uncalculated decisions. This is especially prone when he is around 'That Man's' presence.
○ Flame of Corruption;; Being a Prototype Gear, Sol's powers are constantly growing without a checked limit. In order to contain his power at a manageable level without him going out of control and destroying everything around him, he has built a Gear cell containment device. Even with the limiter, controlling own his power as a Gear is extraordinarily difficult. This is primarily the reason why he holds back against his opponents, and only releases it in small portions if needed be. However, as of recent, the limiter is not working properly, only adding all the more reasons for Sol to be careful. If he loses control over it, then without a doubt, he'd turn into something that he always fought against: A mindless Gear with nothing but murderous rage in its heart.
○ Dragon Install;; As stated, Dragon Install's backlash is tremendous at the end for its massive power boost. It not only puts stress on Sol's overall body, but also his sanity as well. If he were to use it, he'd constantly have to fight against his Gear instincts to keep himself sane. As such, the Dragon Install was almost never used in the overall story in Guilty Gear universe, though there were parts when he demonstrated only a fraction of its potential power. This was usually displayed when he couldn't win without it - or wanted someone out of the picture. Permanently.
