The World that Never Was was empty as it was dull and the castle only seemed to be worse with so few of the Organizations returning members. So Vanitas found himself wandering unfamiliar rooms close to where Axel had laid Roxas to rest after they had split. Now the darkling was considering resting somewhere himself. Where though he had no idea. These rooms could still be occupied for all he knew, and he wasn't the kind of person you wanted to sneak up on while he slept.
Xehanort had long since had him attacking first and asking questions later. A lot of that training was counter productive now, however, with his attempts and making friends. He liked Roxas after all. He wasn't sure about Axel yet. It was clear he had Darkness inside of him like Terra had, desperately trying to take grip on him if the way his eyes had changed was any indication.
He didn't know if he could help with that, either, he had a tendency to agitate problems like that.
Finally he settled in a room that was very close to Roxas' (at least he assumed it was Roxas') and paid very little attention to the objects that occupied the space already, or the dust that had settled on them as he curled in the bed and tried to force himself to rest and relax.

[attr="class","tiacon"] [attr="class","tiabox"] ♡TAGS: @vanity Axel ♡NOTES: ow He really did try to sleep for as long as he could, but he seemed to be only get in about two to three hours before his azure depths popped open again. The area around him was dark, and he didn't feel any sort of presence in the room with him. The bed was empty except for his own body, meaning that Axel had gone elsewhere.. And so had Vanitas. Vanitas had already accepted the offer of staying here at the castle with the two of them, so it only made sense that he would be within these walls after all, but the question arose as to where.
Finally, the young Nobody found a way to sit up, despite his body not enjoying the movement. Roxas took in a deep breath, trying his best to allow the pain to fade away, and thankfully, some of it complied with him. Thankfully, it wasn't as bad as he was expecting it to be, albeit he was still awfully sore from the whole fusion ordeal with his new friend.
It all happened so fast... The majority of it was a blur, and he couldn't even remember how he had gotten back to the castle. He could tell that he hadn't gotten that much sleep, but he damn well knew that if he were to attempt at it, he would only be fruitless in his endeavor. Sighing, the blond shifted is legs and somehow managed to get into a standing position, despite how much he wavered for the first few seconds. Rubbing his eyes, he carefully opened the door to his room and peered out.
Just as he suspected, there was nothing there except the usual nothingness that harbored and bred within this godforsaken castle. It was in the evening, but he wasn't sure of the exact time, making him a little confused; he scanned the area to find that two doors down, the entryway to one of the dens was ajar. He wasted no time, wandering over to it and peeking in to see a curled up body on the bed, a mess of black hair making it very easily identifiable.
Roxas quietly walked in the room, not knowing if Vanitas was asleep or not, but he did sit down on the edge of the bed, leaning down to rest his elbows atop his thighs. Even if his friend was in the depths of slumber, he felt a strange sense of comfort just being in a room with someone else. Axel's whereabouts were unknown, but he knew that the redhead would show up eventually - he always did.
"I hope you're doing okay." His voice was no more than a hushed whisper, not loud enough to wake anyone in the slightest, but still able to be detected by anyone that retained consciousness. What they had gone through was traumatic and couldn't be explained by anyone. For once.. Roxas felt as though he couldn't ask Axel and get an answer out of him, because he just knew that he was just as clueless as the Keyblade bearer was. What a troublesome situation...

It was completely black outside. There was nothing on the other side of the window as usual. For some reason, it seemed worse today, so much more empty. Even the broken and mangled remains of Kingdom Hearts seemed worse and mocked him. Axel bit the inside of his lip, trying not to allow himself to get too riled up. He could feel the heat boiling under his skin which was pretty unusual. Perhaps it was because he really was so angry and wasn't allowing it to explode outwardly as usual.
What was supposed to be a fun time at the beach had gone so horribly wrong. He wasn't sure he would be able to return to Destiny Island again without cringing. Even if Xion came back and wanted to see a proper sunset, he didn't think he would be able to do so there. Roxas might be able to get over it since he had Vanitas and they had wanted to be joined as they were. He had been the reason they weren't anymore, not that they should be. They were far from complete and they had just made a mess of themselves. He hoped one of them was smart enough to realize that a perfect union would mean there was no "us" just "me" which had been true for them.
The blond had to stop the brunet and injured them both with his Keyblade. Part of him just wanted to walk away now, let the squirts have their disjointed union and ruin themselves. He would save him the pain of having the dark haired boy wanting to constantly fight him while the Key continually held him back, causing more negativity between them. Then there was the fact that he didn't want to let Roxas go. For once he thought he was going to get what he wanted without any terrible consequence. The Flurry didn't have to fight and scrap for his survival and plan out every move, every word, to have this.
That was a lie.
The redhead had run to his love's side, had shown how much he cared in front of a stranger which he really shouldn't have done. He hadn't done so in the past and what did it get him this time? Pain. Had his blond just curled up in his arms, he would have been willing to comfort Vanitas as well, knowing that the Nobody came to him to be taken care of. No, instead he had been wholly ignored, not even answered, and the little zombie caused himself more pain in crawling to someone else. Now he wasn't sure how to react. Axel was back to thinking that he would just have to pretend all over again, map out his emotions. He couldn't show how upset, hurt, and jealous he was. Roxas wouldn't understand. The only issue was that his eyes would give him away, not that he had realized there was a change.
He dragged himself out of the shadows in his own head as he heard foot steps in the hallway. The first set he noticed took their time in the hallway, meaning it had to be the dark haired wielder. He finally found somewhere to settle and silence followed. The next time he heard noise in the hallway it was slower meaning it had to be Roxas. The fire starter perked up a little and looked to his door instead of outside. He waited for it to open but it remained barely ajar as silence fell again in the hallway.
Axel gave a small nod as he felt shunned once more. He couldn't understand or help with whatever the shorter males had gone through and clearly his lover knew he wasn't needed. He hung his head for a moment and decided that he needed out of the castle. It would be easy to just summon a corridor but obviously the redhead was a masochist. He was such a glutton for pain that he didn't even think of it and instead exited his room to walk out the normal way.
The Flurry began walking past the room the Keybearers were in, pausing only because he realized whose room it was. Oh, it would be bad if that particular occupant returned now. He sighed and shook his head at himself. He couldn't leave them there to potentially get fried by lightning. You might want to convince him to pick another room. Wouldn't want Larxene to come back to you two in there, He said just loud enough to get Roxas' attention. His tone was as neutral as he could make it, as void as his aching chest should be. The tallest of the three glanced at the blond and quickly away again. He really needed to get going before he couldn't keep the mask up. His slow steps resumed, bothered that he was being so cowardly like this. Just one more bad thing to add to the list.

Vanitas never did go to sleep, he rested in silence with his eyes closed, sure, but he didn't sleep. He thought of how disastrous that his accidental merger had been. He had felt completeness again, and it had been bliss, but then it had gone wrong in a way that was worse than his joining with Ventus. They had been so strong though... it could be used for emergency situations, he argued at himself, but it got your friend hurt.
Friend. That was a strange word. Ventus had friends, Vanitas had enemies.
His thoughts continued in a similar pattern to that, occasionally breaking to think of other things but ultimately giving up for a proper vision of what had happened inside and outside of their heads.
Those thoughts were interrupted when he heard Roxas. The black-haired Keyweilder kept himself still as Roxas moved closer to him and sat down at the edge of the bed. Slowly he opened his eyes and looked up at the ocean blue's as he spoke, the fragment that was his heart panging with guilt at those words. Why did he care what happened to the broken creature, really?
He looked up in Axel's direction as he spoke and frowned when he started to get up and shifted around Roxas, gently touching his shoulder before going for the redhead, pausing as he tried to find words, he could feel the negativity dwelling in him and it bothered him. Roxas still loved Axel after all. Whatever they had made had been as much of a mistake as he was.
He popped off something different instead, clipped," You need to take care of him, I don't know how."

The familiarity of the voice caught him off guard, the blond boy quickly whipping his head to the source of the noise, though he knew exactly who it was that was standing directly outisde of the room. Yeah, now that it was mentioned, they were in Larxene's room, werent they? Of course, for now, that was the least of the young Nobody's worries; there were much more important things to tend to at the moment. The tension that was weighing heavily in the air, clinging to his skin.. Was remarkable. He wanted so much to push it all away, the crippling sensation to just wrap his arms around himself and lean back beginning to overwhelm him.
The soft and gentle touch on his shoulder surprised him, the raven-haired demon now acting so delicately around him. It was quite a change, one that was noticed automatically. Apparently their joining, although it shouldn't have happened, wasn't all bad. In return, Roxas was granted the joy of understanding someone as complex as Vanitas. He was broken, and although fueled by darkness, was fiercely loyal, and was also.. Apologetic. Just not verbally. So much regret was harbored within his frame, as well as pain and endless turmoil. The sensation of being no more than an experiment-gone-wrong.
In a way.. Roxas kind of related to that. Xion, of course, would even more so.
You need to take care of him, I don't know how.
"What?" That was his immediate reaction, anyway. What was this talk about him being taken care of? Roxas, as he was sure they were both aware, could hold his own quite well in just about any situation. The Organization would send him on countless missions, some of them even life threatening to simply test him in unimaginable ways. Axel wasn't there, Xion wasn't there - he had to do it himself. Was all of that suddenly.. Forgotten?
Roxas sighed and got to his feet, refusing to let his body waver yet again. He made his way across the room, a strange glimmer in his eyes. Was it anger..? No, not quite. Maybe slightly insulted, but not angry.
"I can take care of mys-" The Nobody flicked on the lights, about to look at his lover in a bit of a defiant manner, but something stopped him dead in his tracks. His facial expression faltered, eyes widening into some sort of shock. What.. What happened...?
"Y-Your.. Your eyes-" [newclass=.tiabox]opacity:0;transition:.6s all linear;[/newclass] [newclass=.tiacon:hover .tiabox]opacity:1[/newclass]

The eighth member didn't get very far as he heard movement behind him. At first he didn't think much of it. The two of them were probably shifting, maybe taking his advice. He certainly didn't expect Vanitas to come chase after him. No, definitely not Vanitas. His boots scuffed on the floor as he stopped as the dark haired boy spoke. His brow furrowed at the words that fell from the kid's lips. Was he being told that he had to stay?
He twisted, a nasty smirk taking over his neutral expression. He opened his mouth to respond when Roxas stepped out. Well, at least he wasn't falling over. He wasn't quite one hundred percent, but this was better than the rag doll he had carried in. The redhead continued to stare at Vanitas instead, somehow unable to look at the one person he really wanted to look at. He knew he wouldn't be able to keep the mask up if he did.
So, rather than immediately react to the blond he sneered at the darkling. Don't have to. Kid's got it covered. He doesn't want me, doesn't need me. The status quo remains. He waved a hand and turned away again, barely looking to the only being to make him feel. He just couldn't. Maybe this would finally make it sink in how Roxas' actions could hurt so much. While he couldn't speak for everyone, it did seem rather targeted at him. Not intentionally, of course, but it was always him that was left behind, forgotten, ignored. It wasn't until it had happened and there was plenty of fall out to make him see.
Hindsight is always twenty twenty.
Axel continued down the hall, calling back over his shoulder to the Key's comment about his eyes. The only thing new about them was the pain that he was trying to hard to hide. Why not help that along with a joke? Yeah, I know. I look like Christmas. Green and red go so well together. There was amusement in his voice, sure, but it was self-deprecating. If no one else was going to care about him, why should he? The Flurry was coming full circle and returning to the clown of the group. His thoughts from just minutes ago about manipulating things and hiding everything once more seemed to be the best course now.
