DIO BRANDO
~120 | MALE | STONE MASK VAMPIRE |
HEART OF DARKNESS | JoJo's Bizarre Adventure | CANON |
appearance
personality
♥ Driven -- For all that may be said about him, Dio Brando is a man of great ambition, with the drive to push himself to any lengths to achieve his personal goals, regardless of the cost. He willingly threw away his humanity when he donned the Stone Mask, and was not above debasing himself and weeping to put Jonathan Joestar off guard, and putting on facades and acts of false emotion and pretenses.
♥ Learned -- Despite his lowly birth, Dio is a very intelligent man, having spent all of his free time reading books on any subject he could get his hands on in his youth, and even into his adult days. He always has a drive to learn more so that he may better his position in the world, and takes to learning with a remarkable aptitude.
♥ Cunning -- Dio is sly and manipulative, able to use the powers of his vampiric nature and those of his Stands to great effect, capitalizing on the fear and mystery they can evoke, and often orchestrating his words and actions to have maximum impact, utterly demoralizing opponents before destroying them.
♥ Charismatic -- Dio Brando is a terrifyingly charming and captivating man. Not only thanks to the physique he stole from Jonathan Joestar, but for his attitude and way of carrying himself, and the icy demeanor he exudes. It has been likened to more of the sense of a beast than a man, and his charm has on more than one occasion swayed others, whether out of admiration or fear, to great lengths, and with just a few words.
♥ Protective -- While the number of things that Dio considers worth his time and actually cares for to some degree could be easily counted on one's hands, he is very rewarding and protective of them, if not exactly....caring of their fate. He is encouraging and motivating, driving his subordinates and precious allies to succeed and never surrender...if only for their own good.
♡ Arrogant -- Perhaps Dio's greatest downfall is his great arrogance. Even in his youth, he despised and looked down on the likes of his father and Jonathan, believing himself to be above them and destined for much greater, and later in his life, after acquiring The World, he grew to earnestly believe that his rightful place was to rule over all of the world.
♡ Self-centered -- Dio is solely focused on his own goals and agenda, and quite literally cares none for almost anyone or anything else, save for as tools to suit his own ends. He will not bat an eye if one of his allies is killed or slain, even right in front of him, nor will he show even an ounce of regret for his actions in sending them to inevitable defeat.
♡ Needlessly Cruel -- Dio delights in tormenting and torturing his foes as much as he can before actually killing them, whenever he can. This tendency to "play with his food" has more than once proved to nearly be his downfall, and in the end it is what actually cost him his life in his battle against Jotaro.
♡ Heartless -- Dio is a man whose heart has been blackened and warped by his own selfish desires and twisted motivations. He no longer recognizes any possibility but his own inevitable victory, and will do anything to achieve it — anything. It makes the very concept of working together with anyone else a foreign concept to him, and an exercise in futility for anyone to try — they would only end up as fuel for Dio's ambitions.
history
Abilities
• Skilled Fighter -- Even during his days of being a mere human, Dio Brando was a skilled fighter, being well-versed in boxing and brawling techniques and exercising 'dirty tricks' to gain and keep an advantage. His talents have regressed somewhat after his long rest in his coffin and lack of necessity to make use of them, but he still remains a formidable opponent. On top of his skills in melee brawling, Dio has quite the throwing arm, and can pitch objects, such as knives, with great strength and accuracy, and in handfuls at a time.
• Superhuman Attributes -- After donning the Stone Mask and wetting it with the blood of George Joestar, Dio became a vampire, sacrificing his humanity for immense power. His physical strength rose to vast proportions, far above the likes of even Tarkus, who proved capable of shattering an entire cliffside with one blow. A newly-transformed Stone Mask vampire proved capable of collapsing nearly an entire building with a single strike, before it had even consumed blood, and Dio has had many years to increase and adjust to his powers. Even newly born as a vampire himself, Dio's strength was sufficient to crush a human's skull like wet tissue, and embed his feet into a stone wall effortlessly to walk up it.
His speed and agility are likewise vastly enhanced, compared to a normal human, and as remarked by Robert E. O. Speedwagon, Dio is as fast as a cheetah, and his reactions and reflexes are many times greater in magnitude.
Dio's senses, too, were enhanced behind the human norm, as he was able to listen for Jotaro's breathing from several paces away, and placed his ear to the ground to listen for Jotaro's heartbeat from the same distance. His sight was enhanced to the point of keeping up with his own immense speed, and it gave him great precision, able to, in concert with his strength, block Heirophant Green's Emerald Splash barehanded, and once even flick an individual emerald in the attack to ricochet about and deflect the others.
• Regenerative Powers -- As a vampire of the Stone Mask, Dio possesses powerful healing and regenerative capabilities, making him difficult to defeat or even seriously injure by conventional means. Upon having his arm severed, Dio was able to re-attach it and heal the injury within mere seconds, and even upon being nearly bisected from head to groin was able to recover and regenerate within a few moments as if he had never been injured. His regenerative abilities were even great enough to heal faster than a raging inferno could harm him. Straits, another vampire of the Stone Mask, displayed even greater regenerative powers, able to pull himself together and heal completely within a few minutes after being blown to pieces by a belt of grenades.
• Vaporization Freezing Technique -- A curious ability, but thanks to the great control over his own body granted by the Stone Mask, Dio is able to remove all of the body heat in specific parts of his body, causing anything he touches to instantly freeze over. When fully exerting this power, Dio could freeze a human man completely solid in just two seconds. Targets frozen by this ability have all of the moisture and body heat sucked out of them, making them extremely cold and brittle, and suffering a great deal of pain, even if not frozen entirely solid, making it very difficult to fight properly, and putting them at risk of being shattered.
• Space Ripper Stingy Eyes -- Another odd ability granted by his immense bodily control, Dio can pressurize fluid in his eyeballs to the point that it bursts out in extremely focused streams, akin to a laser, with tremendous force. The 'beams' have enough power to easily pierce stone and even steel, and by sweeping his gaze across an area, Dio can effortlessly carve through even entire sections of a castle.
• Flesh Buds -- Parasitic bundles of Dio's own cells that he can attach to a victim, which will then burrow in and dig into the victim's brain. While thus attached, the victim is subtly influenced to follow Dio's wishes and desires, making it seem as if they were doing so of their own volition. They are very difficult to remove properly without injuring their 'host', and can just as easily attack and attempt to kill the one who tries to remove them.
• Blood Drinking -- As a vampire, Dio requires sustenance in the form of blood to maintain his strength and livelihood. Unlike most vampires, he does not drain blood from his victims via a bite, but via tendrils located within his fingers — under his fingernails, more specifically — which can be used either by stabbing his fingers directly into his victim's neck, or by extending the tendrils across distances of up to several meters to stab into his victim's skin.
Whenever Dio drains blood from a victim, he can choose to leave his vampiric essence behind to transform the victim into a Zombie under his command. Zombies are subservient to Dio, and have a hunger for flesh and blood, but attain great strength and durability in return. Anyone who happens to consume Dio's blood, however, will slowly transform into a vampire of the Stone Mask themselves, gaining all of the fantastic powers that come along with it,
• Fusion -- By taking two separate creatures, Dio can combine them into one, new creature. At need, he can even fuse himself with other creatures or beings, as he did with Jonathan Joestar's body.
• Hypnosis -- With careful words and exertion of his vampiric abilities, Dio can lull the unwitting into a trance-like state of hypnosis and plant ideas and orders in their minds, even up to the point of ordering Jack the Ripper to willingly let Dio drink his blood. It is much more powerful than his Flesh Buds, but the control is also more easily broken and it cannot be restored without physical presence.
• Bestial Presence -- Dio is not only a very charismatic person on his own, but his sheer presence and supernatural nature make him unnaturally alluring and frightening, likening his appearance to a predator and instilling a sense of dread and unease in anyone not prepared to face him down. Partly due to what he was capable of, and partly due to this supernatural charm, even the likes of the Stardust Crusaders, who knew exactly what they were up against, grew uneasy and even terrified at the prospect of confronting Dio directly.
• Flight -- When manifesting large amounts of Stand Power, Dio can mimic his Stand's ability to levitate and thereby fly at a high speed, roughly equitable to his normal movement speed. When doing so he is surrounded by a bright aura of what looks to be golden flames, which only grows more intense as he pours out more and more Stand Power.
• The World -- Dio's Stand — a manifestation of his spirit — -s The World, taking the form of an extremely muscular and imposing green-skinned humanoid clad in golden armor. It possesses monstrous strength, many times greater even than Dio's, and its speed is equally massive, able to throw punches and cross its range of influence around Dio faster than normal human eyes can track. In a contest of speed and brute strength, The World was able to at first overpower and best even Star Platinum, a Stand strong enough to shatter diamond, proving its immense physical capabilities.
But by far The World's greatest ability is its ability to stop time, letting Dio, as he puts it, "reign over the entire world". During the period of stopped time, only Dio and The World are able to move normally, and to those unfamiliar with this power it can seem as if Dio simply teleports to and fro, crossing large distances instantly, demoralizing his opponents by moving them down a flight of stairs during stopped time, and many other such feats. Dio uses The World's ability to stop time as much for an intimidation factor and show of his superiority as he does as an actual combat tool, preferring to crush and terrify his opponents into surrender if possible.
Another ability possessed by The World — and indeed, by all Stands separate from the user — is the ability to share senses between Stand and user, allowing Dio to see and hear through The World's eyes and ears, as well as feel what The World feels, and vice-versa, allowing The World to make use of Dio's senses. All Stands also possess the ability to alter their size based on the wielder's desire, as they are nothing more than energy projections, and can shrink down even small enough to enter and fight inside of a human's brain. Also like many Stands, The World is able to levitate at any point within its range around Dio.
• Hermit Purple: The Passion -- Another version of the Hermit Purple Stand possessed by Joseph Joestar, and thought to be the stand of Jonathan Joestar, whose body Dio stole. It confers a host of psychic abilities to Dio, ranging into telepathy, and allowing him to peer into the minds of others nearby, projecting their thoughts onto a crystal ball, and taking spirit photographs of distant areas he wishes to get a glimpse of. The psychic abilities of the stand also allow him to peer into the hearts of others and manifest images of what they most hope for, enticing them to serve him for information, and further increasing Dio's already impressive charisma. Lastly, this proto-Hermit Purple gives Dio an awareness of anyone who shares the Joestar bloodline and when they are near, as well as when he is being psychically observed.

Weaknesses
○ The Sun -- As a vampire of the Stone Mask, Dio is a being that survives purely on willpower and the stolen life force of others, and has no life force of his own. A strong purifying force, like the light of the sun, will destroy his lifeless body within seconds.
○ Hamon - Hamon, being a tool designed to harness the sun's energy, is also disastrous to vampires of the Stone Mask. In a similar vein, similar powers designed to damage or destroy undead and impure beings would likely achieve a similar effect.
○ Regeneration -- Dio's regeneration is not perfect. Particularly grievous damage can stall it for a time, and even nullify it altogether, for at least a time, and regenerating requires a steady supply of blood to be truly effective, growing weaker and weaker and slower and slower the longer Dio goes without a 'refresher'.
○ Pain and Injury -- While Dio's regeneration might heal his injuries in record time, it does almost nothing for the pain they cause, especially if he isn't aware of the blow and that alone can bring him down for at least a short time. When Jotaro's Star Platinum smashed Dio's skull, it left him sick to his stomach and unable to stand, the pain crippling him so severely he could barely crawl away.
○ Durability -- For all his spectacular strength and speed and his regenerative properties, Dio is no more durably or resilient to injury than an average human, relying more on his regenerative powers and his supernatural speed to keep him going in a fight.
○ The World -- While The World is an extremely powerful Stand, it still remains bound and limited by the same weaknesses inherent in all Stands. It is limited to 10 meters from Dio himself at all times, and moving beyond that range will cause it to immediately vanish, needing to be willed into existence within its range again. On top of that, if Dio were ever rendered unconscious or severely incapacitated enough The World would likewise fade and vanish without his will to keep it manifested.
○ Stand Rebound -- The World is much more durable than Dio is, if only so that it can withstand its own immense strength, but any damage it suffers is directly transmitted to Dio's own body, and any damage Dio suffers is likewise shared by The World. This effectively gives two targets to facilitate combat and injuring Dio to bring him down.
○ Time Stop -- When The World has stopped time, it is not a completely infallible power. Other individuals with the ability to manipulate time in some fashion will often be at least aware of what happens within the stopped time, if not exactly able to move their field of vision to follow it, and others who are capable of stopping time may be able to move to some extent and combat the effects of stopped time.
○ Blood High -- When Dio drained Joseph Joestar's blood, he gained "the greatest of highs" from it, and went completely insane, growing deranged and wild, and threw his former caution and intelligence during his fighting to the wind and raising his arrogance and sense of superiority to all new heights, making him much more dangerous, but much more sloppy and inefficient. The chances of another "blood high" to this effect remain and would be just as disastrous for Dio.
○ Wild Temper -- Dio's temper is legendary, and something as minor as an insult to his person, actually injuring him, or defying his expectations can set him off, pushing him to ridiculous lengths to take vengeance.
○ Arrogance -- Dio is an arrogant individual, earnestly believing that he is the rightful ruler of the entire world, and even beyond. He holds the belief that any and all other life is below him, fit only to be trod on and ruled by him, used as stepping stones to reach new heights. He holds back the greater extends of his power as a result of this, not believing he will need them to crush such lowly insects, preferring to awe and crush his enemies' resolve and leading them to subservience or terror enough they will leave the fight of their own volition if at all possible, which can lead to....negative consequences for Dio.
