He yawned as soon as he stepped out of the dark corridor that dropped him off directly in front of the entrance to Ansem's Study in the depths of Radiant Garden. He had been here only one or two times before to clear out some Heartless, but now he was here to join Axel in their hunt for the rest of the Organization members, and maybe just some answers in general. The blond boy stretched right before he walked into the building with winding hallways. Of course it took him some trial and error before he found the true way into the bowls of the study; lots of turning around and trying again, unfortunately.
Eventually, there was another door that he was able to open, bringing him to the main chamber that was filled with a multitude of books, as well as his best friend sitting at the table, flipping through them. The younger Nobody smiled as he saw the redhead in his glasses - he had never known Axel had those.
"No fears, Roxas is here and he's gonna crack the code." He said with a playfully victorious tone, walking over and placing his hands on his hips as though he were some sort of superhero. He then laughed at himself, leaning over to glance over what the other was reading, finding that it was just as boring as he had anticipated. Great. This was going to be a long day, but the possibility of finding quality information was something too good to pass up. For all they knew, all of the answers they needed were simply hiding in here, waiting to be found.
Roxas pulled up a chair and sat down next to the fiery male, even going so far as to lean against him slightly, reading the words and trying to understand them as best as he could, but...
Okay yeah, this was going way over his head. What did these words even mean?
"Alright, so he may not crack the code, but he is here for moral support?" The Keybearer leaned back slightly, resting the full weight of his head against the eighth's arm, smiling gently at the warmth he could sense there. "Have you found anything?"

He had noticed that the tension in the air was beginning to falter, thus giving him the sense that he had succeeded in whatever.. He was trying to do by plopping down and proving himself to be the perfect distraction. Their cause was a noble one that honestly needed to be handled as soon as possible, but... Slacking off, of course, could sometimes be in the realm of possibility. A hand wandered to his thigh, and he accepted the touch warmly, giving a small sigh accompanied by a smile. It was times like this that he truly felt as though there was much more than this small existence as a Nobody; perhaps it was the one thing that Xemnas had spouted that made a hint of sense.
"A lot of us didn't think our kind was worth the time." Roxas stated a little morbidly, his tone having taken on a bit of a melancholic turn. Unfortunately, such was true - they were convinced that Nobodies were not worth the effort, and instead were told to put all of their energy into becoming something else, instead of trying to make this life livable. And now, Axel and Roxas and every other Nobody that could reform or was initially in this position was having to suffer the consequences. Part of him remained angry while the other part couldn't help but feel a bit of understanding towards the scientific department in the Organization. They were just as brainwashed and he was.
"What a mess..." The boy trailed off, looking at all of the books that his best friend had seemingly gone through, only to find that there was no information that could be valid to their cause. The keyblade bearer was about to lean back whenever a pair of thin arms reached out and enclosed his entire torso, and he was able to let out a deep sigh; the warmth was otherworldly... He was glad he was here, but he felt a bit useless, not being intelligent enough to comprehend all of these fancy words. Or perhaps it wasn't simple intelligence, but academics? Roxas could sometimes prove to not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he wasn't an idiot... At least he hoped he wasn't.
"Is there anything I can do?" He asked softly, tilting his head up so his chin could rest against the Flurry's chest, looking up at him as though he were some sort of puppy. A puppy who would happily obey anything said by the master.
Yup, Roxas hadn't changed that much since zombie-hood.

Roxas was right. It was a damn shame that they had never really looked into what they were after their hearts had been taken. All everyone knew as they joined the Organization was that Xemnas would make them whole again. Before anyone was able to question if they could make something of their non-existence, they were told it would be over if they just worked toward this single goal. Had Vexen ever been allowed to take a Dusk apart and see what made them tick?
He made a small noise and dismissed it. At this point, it didn't really matter. It wasn't like the scientists of the group were around to do their experiments now. They wouldn't be able to answer his questions about what made that Asphyxia say there was something in him. He wouldn't ask them anyway. He didn't trust Vexen, partly because well ... it was Vexen. The other reason was a much better one and that would be the blond academic most likely wouldn't react too favorably to him. So, still back to having to go with Sora to the Mysterious Tower.
A small sigh escaped him as he turned his thoughts toward the Key. He offered a small shrug as the state of the room was commented on. I've been here a while, He offered, finally taking off his glasses and setting them atop an open book. He met Roxas' gaze as he looked up at him, seeing such kindness in those sapphire eyes. That was what kept him going for so long. Those eyes, that personality, knowing that there was one being that truly cared for him helped Axel put actual effort into his everyday.
The Flurry felt his own expression soften, a smile brightening his face. It wasn't his usual devilish smirk; this was kinder with love rather clearly written there. Kiss me. The redhead leaned down but stopped before he pressed his lips to the Key's. He wasn't really confident in his standing with the blond. He knew what he wanted, but he couldn't figure out if Roxas understood and wanted the same thing. He hovered just out of reach so the decision to follow through was left to the other Nobody. It didn't seem he would find any answers about how they came to return, or what was going on with him personally. Maybe he could get some answers for his relationship.

Yeah, it was pretty easy to tell that the redhead had been in this realm of torment for quite some time. It was as though Roxas could literally see the exhaustion coming off of his friend in waves. He felt a pang of pity for the larger of the two; he was trying so hard just to find the answers that would put the young blond at ease. He could sense that he was easing tension in the Flurry's body, however, and that made Roxas happier than one could even imagine. The fact that he was able to cause a positive response in someone this important.. Made all of the struggles they went through worthwhile.
He was then being looked at with the most endearing of gazes, on that confused him slightly, but at the same time, he understood it perfectly. What he saw was a mimic of what was inside of his own self, but he didn't know what to call it. It was a strong, intense sensation that could only be described as a gentle and subtle, but yet powerful and overtaking all at the same time. His mind was trying it best to process it all, but needless to say it was a huge overload on his system.
Kiss me.
He felt the other's body heat drawing dangerously close, and his eyes were beginning to flutter to a close, ready to welcome in the pair of opposing lips against his own. He was met with a bit of confusion when he realized that the movement had stopped, and his eyes opened in the slightest to find that they were only centimeters apart from harnessing that wonderful connection that they had recently explored.
"Mm," He said in response, giving a few nods before closing the cap, initiating the kiss and smiling into it, even humming in delight at the delicious contact. It was comforting, cozily warm and enticing to the point where the youth felt as though he were about to melt into the touch of the enveloping flame. Roxas had no clue what this was, or if it was supposed to be something that he wasn't aware of, but he did know.. That he was the happiest he had ever been. If only he could find Xion, then things would finally be completely right again...

Axel was happy to let all the frustration he had been holding onto. Having the small blond near meant a lot to him in so many ways. It was as if he had his heart again and he knew that if that could ever be true, it would always be Roxas that held onto it. He had said it once before; he was glad that the Key kept it safe. While he didn't really care, this meant he had a weakness. It was the first time in years that he had one like this, but that also meant that he would be fiercely protective of the blond.
His shoulders slumped in relief as Roxas closed the small gap between them. He heard the pleased hum that came from his counter part and felt even better still. One of his hands drifted up and lightly ran his fingers over the Key's jaw. Hopefully, if this was any indication, he wouldn't have to doubt himself nearly as much as he did. For someone so arrogant at times, he hid a way a list of insecurities that he really wished he didn't have. Oddly, one such issue had always been his glasses, but he hadn't given those a second thought when the small being before him walked in.
He pulled away slowly and found he couldn't help the small smile that had claimed his expression. He leaned back in his chair contently. He wasn't able to hold onto the Key anymore, but he wiggled his fingers to beckon the blond toward him. I think that's the best way to call it a day on research, He murmured, vaguely glancing at the mess he had made and looked away again. He would most likely leave it like this anyway. No one came down here and it would at least give the Dusks something to do if he ever bothered to tidy up.

Roxas had to admit, there was a sense of longing whenever he felt his best friend beginning to pull away, and he even tried to follow him for the first second, but then decided it would be best to simply relax his body and allow the redhead to do what he wanted. If it were up to the little keyblade wielder, the two of them would be like this every moment of every day, but there was simply too much that had to be done, too much that was on their plates that needed to be handled before anything else. He was then being summoned yet again, and without a second thought, the young Nobody was on his feet and making his way around the bigger body relaxing in the chair.
He made his way into his own chair, which happened to be the other's lap. His arms reached up and looped around Axel's neck, supporting him so he wouldn't fall flat on his back on the floor (such an unpleasant way to go).
"Hey, aren't I supposed to be moral support? I never said anything about distracting from the cause." He laughed immediately after his words, leaning into the heat that the Flurry was providing. This place was always the best; he would sacrifice anything to be in this spot for the rest of his life. He smiled and took in a deep breath, inhaling Axel's scent and submitting it to the core of his memory, finding great comfort in being completely enveloped by someone he cared so much about. His chest lacked that sense of emptiness whenever they were like this.. It was one of the main reasons that Axel stood out to him so much, and one of the reasons he hoped he did the same for this very special Nobody.
"Buuuuuut, I think I can accept it. For now." He finally tilted his head back up to bestow delicate kisses upon the heated skin of the eighth's cheek, nuzzling into the squishy flesh when he was finished pecking it. Although they were husks, it was pleasant to be able to pretend that they were something more, and maybe, when they were with each other, it surpassed the realm of pretend.
In the end, this felt far too real to be a farce.
"What's on your mind?"

The fire starter was quite pleased as Roxas followed after him, taking direction so well. They knew each other well enough that even a simple gesture could garner their desired response. The blond moved seats without a word or protest and settled into the taller male's lap. He adjusted his legs just enough to make sure that the Key wouldn't fall and wrapped his arms around the smaller Nobody. He hadn't known heaven when he had died, only darkness. If he could experience what was supposed to be pure peace, he would imagine it would be exactly like this.
He made a content noise at the affection shown him. He hugged the Keybearer closer as he gave a small chuckle. You might be a distraction, but today you're just a better reason to shift focus. Axel couldn't say that he minded this particular distraction at any time. He would much rather goof off with Roxas than be on a mission, or find a way to end any particular task early so he could make his way to the clocktower with his friends. It had always been true that he preferred to slack off rather than put his full attention into a mission for the Organization. The only time he ever did was when his non-existence depended on it.
Now he had nothing else to demand his focus that much. These books were opened in an effort to give Roxas answers. The Flurry might have questions of his own that needed answering, but some of them didn't require this kind of effort. It was mostly only for the blond in his lap and now he was present so it no longer mattered. The redhead closed his eyes and nuzzled his nose into the Key's hair. For this moment, he had finally found some small measure of peace. Just you, He answered quietly.
If they could remain just like this forever, Axel didn't think he would care about anything else. He didn't care about the why's and how's of how they had returned. He didn't care about Xemnas, or other potential threats. His sole purpose was just to keep this small, precious being safe and happy. I can't remember anyone else making me this happy, Axel said. Not even Isa when they had been Somebodies had made him so content. For them, even when they accomplished their goals, there was always something more afterward. A little ice cream might make this better, but that was just extra icing on this already tasty cake.

The things that were falling out of his best friend's mouth were unlike anything he had ever heard. For some strange reason, Roxas was finding it slightly difficult to wrap his head around the concept that he was the only thing on Axel's mind. He never looked at himself in such an important light, but he had to accept the fact that those emeralds did, and they revered him more than anything else in this world. Roxas was beginning to understand that, though the sense is lacked was large in number. The small boy felt the other's face burying into the blond locks that topped his head, and the Nobody was forced to give the most gentle of smiles.
His stomach was filling with something fluttery, his chest was tight and trying its best to replace emptiness with something else he wasn't fully aware of. His grip around Axel tightened instinctively as he closed his eyes, as though he was trying to bring the larger body closer, to form more of that heat materializing between them. It was moments like these that couldn't be matched by anything on the face of the worlds that they scouted every day - what was this feeling? Was it just one, or was it a full set of the, all activating at the same time? That would explain this odd sensory overload that Roxas was trying to filter, his mind attempting with all of its mind to put some sense behind it all.
It was useless, to say the least.
"What about back when you had a heart?" Roxas asked, trying to figure out of this was a normal thing that somebodies experienced, or if this was.. Even more special than he initially thought. He hadn't put any logic into these things that were happening with the two of them, so.. Naturally, he was relatively clueless. He remembered being touched the way he had been by the redhead, and how amazing it had made him feel, but.. That didn't explain why he was feeling so amazing now, simply behind held by those comforting arms.
"I.. Don't remember what it was like to be Sora, but.. I do know that you make me the happiest, too." He looked up, meeting his eyes and smiling into them. If only he knew just how easily he could turn the big-bad-assassin of the disbanded Organization XIII into putty; he could become malleable between his soft fingers, but Roxas would never take advantage of that. Axel was too special, too important. Too.. Perfect.
"You make me happy."

The Flurry gave a small thoughtful sound as he tried to remember what it had been like to be Lea. Most of the memories were easy to recall, but the feelings that went with them were harder. Logically, he could say that this kind of happiness, this fluttering feeling in his chest, had never been something Lea had experienced. There had been love, but never quite like this. I was never this kind of happy. I loved my parents, Isa, maybe a couple of others, but you're special, He said. Those had been a different kind of love, more in the lines of just familial ties. Isa had been chosen, Lea wanted him in his life, as his constant partner in crime, but his young Somebody had never gotten the chance to have this kind of experience.
There are things that I would do for you, want to do with you, that never crossed my mind with them. This kind of love is special. He grinned down at the blond, pleased with how their bond was growing. If he could continue doing the right things, then he could keep Roxas happy always. Well, mostly. He would have the power to make him feel better when he wasn't. They might not have hearts, but the Key had always been different. With no memories, he had never needed to be taught how to react to things. He genuinely seemed to know how to feel and showed it perfectly. Maybe that was the one thing that Axel had learned from this strange, little Nobody.
The redhead lifted a hand to run his fingers over the boy's cheek, letting his softer side really show for once. I never want to be the cause of your sadness. That's not what this kind of love is about. I'll do anything to see you smile, He said quietly, meaning every word. This was the first time that he had ever been this gentle with someone, this kind. Axel wasn't really sure if this was a good thing or not simply because it was a first. He did know that this was a rare thing only for Roxas. If this ray of sunlight was ever dimmed due to someone making him upset, that someone would be in for a world of hurt. He would give his life again if it meant that Roxas would be happy.
The Flurry knew that this was more than he had ever said about his feelings before, never having thought that he could actually feel them. He had told Sora that Roxas had been the only one to actually make him feel like he had a heart again. The blond had known his last words, so surely he would remember that. This was one of the most honest moments in his non-existence. Perhaps this would be a new trend for him. He wouldn't be the only one to be this honest though. Tell me something new, Roxy. Something I don't know about you.

The things that were falling out of his best friend's mouth were unlike anything he had ever heard. Although Roxas was confused, he was taking it all in and trying to understand it to the best of his ability. Axel was consistently playing the role of the boy's teacher, but it was as though, in this instance, they were both relatively clueless and were playing off of each other's actions. What meant the most, however, is when he was told that this certain type of love was special. He could relate to that in a sense that he had a few personal experiences under his belt. He loved Xion, and he loved Namine. He loved Riku and Kairi simply because of his strong connections with his somebody, and the thought of those two would cause his stomach to flutter happily and a smile to occur upon his features.
He loved Hayner, Pence, Olette, and even their rival gang in a strange way, and he even loved Vanitas, maybe even Ventus if given the chance. What was different, however, was that he loved Axel. It was very different than the way he felt towards everyone else, and apparently that was what the redhead was talking about. The differentiation between the two types of love was becoming obvious to the blond now, and he couldn't help but think as to why he didn't realize it before. It made.. Sense. Didn't it?
Tell me something new, Roxy. Something I don't know about you.
"Something.. New?" He repeated the statement, taking time to think about it carefully. He had never even considered that the Flurry didn't know every single thing about him... But, in the end, they were all individuals, and Roxas didn't even know that his best friend had glasses until a few minutes ago. He looked towards the ceiling and scrunched his mouth to the side as he let thought overtake him, then was stricken with a realization.
"I like to sing - and dance." He smiled joyously, having realized he had never really told anyone of his hobbies that he might not have been supposed to do back in the Organization. It wasn't necessarily that he as afraid Axel would turn him in, or Xion even, but it was that he was never prompted to release the information. Roxas was always finicky like that, even more so back in the days when the group of husks were banded.
"And I think I'm starting to get it." He said with a few nods, trying to do anything in his power to make his friend feel better. Was it wrong to call him his friend now? He wasn't quite sure of the proper title, but what he was sure of was the feeling in his gut that was telling him this was right. He was sure of the comfort that he experienced when they made contact, and he was more than sure about how happy Axel made him by simply being around the young Keybearer.
"I feel a different kind of love for you, too; it's not like Xion, or my friends back in Twilight Town -" The boy brought one of the hands that was supporting himself to his chest where his heart should have been, the larger of the two now supporting the entirety of his weight. "It's weird... It's like I can't ever get close enough to you, like... As much as I love being around you, I can't get enough." He explained with a inquisitive undertone to his voice, curiosity continuously driving him forward. He made eye contact with those stunning emeralds, smiling gently to the Flurry.
"Is that.. supposed to happen?"

Well, that certainly was new to him. Axel raised a brow at Roxas' confession. He hadn't known what to expect, but he wasn't really prepared for that. When had singing and dancing become a hobby of the blond's? How had he not known? The only thing he could really think of to be logical was that it developed in the digital version of Twilight Town. It was still nice to know there were surprises and he smirked. For a moment, a dark, mischievous look ran through his eyes. He would not soon forget that Roxas enjoyed such activities and he would poke at him for it later. He was quite interested to know what the kid's singing voice was like.
Now didn't seem the time. They were getting into deep waters and he didn't want to ruin what might be his one chance to make sure that the Key really began to understand what this kind of love was. Okay, perhaps it was just their version, but did any pair of people experience love the same way as everyone else? Axel shifted his grip as Roxas stopped supporting himself. He smiled gently as what the blond described was exactly what Axel felt. He let out a sigh and tightened his grip a little more.
Yeah, I think that's what its supposed to be like. We should try to make each other happy, take care of each other. I never want to be without you again, He responded, staring into those dazzling sapphires. He had been alone long enough. Roxas had left him twice already. This was an opportunity to get him to understand how important he was. This had nothing to do with Sora, Keyblades, anything other than who the blond was as an individual. That was what kept Axel wanting to keep him close.
The Flurry knew that the Key was counting on him for answers, for finding the rest of their disbanded group. Why he would worry about Larxene or Vexen would always be a mystery, but he was still going to look for him. That was hardly something that one went to ... what were they now? Friend didn't really fit, and boyfriend seemed trivial and very much a term for children. That had to be a child's term anyway since he had overhead it from such a long time ago. Well, either way, those were not tasks you asked of someone so significant in your life. He would continue on those missions, but there had to be better things he could be looked to for. If there's anything you ever need, or want, let me know, okay?

Whatever place he was supposed to be in with Axel, it was a comfortable one. He didn't know if he was responding correctly to the things going on in this scenario, but he was still getting treated the same and the redhead wasn't acting like anything was out of sorts. The keyblade wielder continued to smile as he was held, breathing in deeply and letting out a gentle, relaxed sigh.
Although it probably wasn't supposed to, one of his best friend's statements slightly stung. The word "again" played over multiple times, flashbacks of the times fate ripped him away from the one that cared so much about him - he tried so hard to not let it paint itself all over his face, but of course, it was still obvious in the depths of azure seas, so he did what came natural to him, and averted his gaze away from contact with the other. It always only took one look, and Axel was able to read him as though he were pages in a book with type thirty-six font.
It had been his choice to go because of his lack of answers and how enraged, confused and used he had become, but it took time to fully understand that the Flurry was doing all he could to protect not only him, but Xion as well. In the end, one of them did have to be eliminated, and the other would survive - there was.. No way around it. And Axel chose him. Instead of accepting that, he had turned away to attempt to forge his own way to break the laws of destiny. He failed. And he suffered the consequences harshly, and Axel had to deal with the fallout as well. It was an awful experience, one that he wished he could forget.
In the arms of his lover, however, that was becoming a relatively easy thing to do. He didn't have to focus on all of that anymore, because now he had something new to fixate his thoughts upon. How amazing all of this made him feel, and how much it felt as though the emptiness within his hollow chest was dissipating, morphing into something warm and wholesome.
"Just you." He mimicked what had been said by the opposing Nobody, smiling yet again and letting the bad thoughts flush out of his current mood. He didn't need that. Not anymore.
"I wish you didn't have to let me go - haha," He murmured softly, resting his head against the warm chest, nuzzling into the heat and closing his eyes. His body was losing its tension, showing that the comfort he found here was wondrously overbearing. It was.. Perfect.

Axel hadn't meant to make Roxas feel guilty, or cause him to look away, but he had spoken the truth. That was a little unusual for him. He had manipulated so many, he had kept much from the little blond curled up in his lap. The latter he thought had been for the best. It had bit him in the end, causing the only thing he cared for to leave. They had equal parts in their separation, but he had never known how to express how important the Key was until death. Now the truth of their past could be as equally painful as it was happy.
He leaned forward to press a light kiss to the smaller Nobody's cheek. No matter what, there would always be something to draw the Flurry to him. Strangely, Roxas was the flame and he the moth in this scenario. What a strange role reversal. He mentally shrugged it off and focused on the good things coming of their situation. He wanted to be happy. He wanted something better than what they had before. With no one to tell them what to do, they had a lot more opportunity to just be them, or find out who they were.
He didn't think that he would have much to find out about himself other than the lengths he would go to when he decided to protect someone, to give himself over to another's whims. Axel didn't think it would be too hard to do whatever Roxas wanted. I might not always be holding you, but I will never let you go, He said quietly. He held the blond close, enjoying the warmth and feeling the tension leave the Key. He grinned, shifting one more time to try and get a little more comfortable without disturbing his boy too much. The redhead spared a glance at the pointless research in front of him and decided that he wasn't really sure he needed this study anymore after this.
I think it might be time for a nap.
