IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY OUTSIDE. BIRDS ARE SINGING, FLOWERS ON BLOOMING. ON DAYS LIKE THESE, KIDS LIKE YOU... SHOULD BE BURNING IN HELL.
“ Pain throbbed through a certain skeleton's skull as he regained consciousness. His vision faded in and out before coming into focus on his surroundings. He found himself in what seemed like a bustling town of sorts. There was a large clock tower in the town as well, easy to spot since he woke up near it's base. As he came to his senses, Sans was instantly met with a mix of emotions, namely confusion, shock, and downright panic. This wasn't supposed to happen. In no timeline did anything like this ever happen or even should be possible. The last thing he remembered was fighting off those little black things before fatigue overtook him, causing the short skeleton to black out. Then he awoke here, all alone.
Everyone had downright vanished before he fought those shadow creatures. Toriel, Undyne, Frisk, and even Papyrus were gone without a trace. He had no way to know where they were, or even if they were still alive. But he wouldn't let things end up like how they did in a... particular timeline. That time he had to take things into his own hands, but ultimately failed. He had to find them. He just had to. Wandering as fast as he could through the human town while heading , Sans called out desperately for his friends.
" * tori?! " " * frisk!? " " * papyrus?! " " * anyone!... " . . . But nobody came.
After several minutes of his search and rescue mission, the skeleton leaned against a lamppost to catch his breath. He was getting some odd looks from the humans around him, but they simply pulled up his hood to try to conceal his skeletal face, but his left eye still flickered blue every now and then. If those shadow creatures were here, he didn't want to fight them now- it would only end up how it did before.
He eventually made his way to what looked like some train station of sorts. Sans had been looking around for any sign of Asgore, Toriel, Frisk, Alphys, Papyrus, and Undyne, but he had no leads to where they were. He had tried to ask the villagers, but none responded to his pleas. They just gave him a weird look. Understandable, since he was a skeleton asking around if anyone had seen any blue fish-people, a goat lady, or a yellow lizard scientist. To be frank, he'd give anything to see a familiar face. After so much searching, he had began to lose hope.” notes Eh, anyone who wants to can join.

Usually, one would think that after a few days, someone would take break from searching. Fortunately, Undyne was no such person, and she would be out every day for the majority of the hours that the sun reigned the sky simply looking for anyone that she could call friend. Anyone that she had known from her life in the Underground would be a sight for sore eyes, even though she had already been paired with Papyrus and Frisk. Anyone else, however, had yet to be found.
The aquatic monster was quite used to spending her days on the lookout - after all, it was her duty as the Royal Guard's captain. It was her job to be on the constant search for human children to aid in Asgore's plan to retake the surface and eliminate all of the humans, but they.. They had backed out of that quickly. Undyne always tried to act strong about it, and just like her King, she was enraged by what had happened to the royal children; but how could anyone enjoy taking lives the way that she did?
She could think of one person. A person that she had met quite recently the day that she had been reunited with her friends. The child had looked too similar to Frisk for it to be considered comfortable, and the kid was completely obsessed with obliterating everything that walked into her path. Undyne tried not to waste no time with the brat, but she knew that they would probably be causing complications later.
She walked with her hands in the pockets of her jeans, her black jacket swaying in a gust of wind that passed by her slim frame. The captain took in a breath of oxygen, letting it out in the form of a gentle sigh. Things had been so messed up recently, and to put it frankly, she couldn't shake the feeling of helplessness whenever she had awoken here without anyone by her side. She was so relieved when she had found her skeletal apprentice, even though he was shouting as loudly and obnoxiously as he always did. It was.. Comforting, to be honest.
Her yellow eyes had been fixated upon the ground, and only when she raised them did she see something that caused her to stop dead in her tracks. In front of the town station, she saw a figure that struck her with its familiarity and made her blink several times to make sure that she simply wasn't seeing things. when she realized that she wasn't, a huge grin appeared across her face, that crooked smile of hers showing so much joy and exhilaration within it. Although she couldn't see the face, she knew that stature and hoodie anywhere. Papyrus' brother, the little shortstack that was full of lame puns that never failed to make her crack up and infuriate her apprentice.
She decided the best way to make her grand entrance would be a stealthy one, sneaking up on the small skeleton before grabbing his shoulders tightly and making a loud noise that resembled that of a playful "roar."
"And who do we have here?!"

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY OUTSIDE. BIRDS ARE SINGING, FLOWERS ON BLOOMING. ON DAYS LIKE THESE, KIDS LIKE YOU... SHOULD BE BURNING IN HELL.
“ A lot was on the skeleton's mind. He had his hands full with the task of finding his friends and figuring out the new mystery of how he got here and what this place was, and what to do next. He just hoped those things that attacked him weren't here also. Well, he wouldn't get anywhere by standing here- He was interrupted from his thoughts by a sudden shoulder grasp and a playful "roar." Sans reeled back somewhat in surprise, promptly turning around. A wave of relief and comfort swept over his lost hope as he met the all-too familiar face of the head of the Royal Guard." * oh thank god... "He quietly mumbled to himself. Nothing bad happened yet. Good. If she was okay, the others must be well too, right...? The slight shock on his face from Undyne's "attack" soon washed away and was replaced with relief. Lots of relief. Still, it wasn't every day the pranker got pranked. He didn't know Undyne as well as his brother, whom always headed over to her house for "extra private one-one one training," but the two became more acquainted when she would come to their house when her's would burn down because of their cooking lessons. It happened more than once. Nonetheless, Sans was now in a much better mood. Well, they were in a train-station esque place. Might as well begin to bust out the puns." * yo. im glad to see you haven't run out of steam. i see you gave me a little bit of a freight there. "Train puns. Truly one of the more derailing of puns to get things going down the right track. Of course, he had to start with a light pun to get on the right train of thought.
The grin on the skeleton's face was as prominent as ever, some happiness and hope coming to him from seeing someone he knew, getting back to his puns, and the growing glimmer of hope that the rest of them were OK. They would all be together soon, right? Alphys, Papyrus, Frisk, maybe even that Mettaton guy his brother watched on TV... They would all be back soon. They had to.” notes Eh, anyone who wants to can join.

The puns that were flowing out of his skeletal mouth were always more than enough to send the Guard into a bout of intense laughter, an charming snort sounding through her nostrils due to her giddiness. It was nice to see that smile again, that lovely, familiar smile that Sans always wore on his face no matter the circumstance. It was comforting in ways that she wouldn't even know how to begin to explain. So many things had happened over the past few days and things were messed up beyond recognition.
After all that had happened, Undyne found herself a bit helpless and clueless on what to do, but.. Things were slowly, but surely, starting to fall back into a place where she could at least read the situation properly. Of course she was still in a state of fear of the unknown, but whenever she looked to the sky and saw the sunset that roamed overhead.. The sense of freedom was unbelievable. It might not be a proper exchange for all of the lives she had to take in other to accumulate the souls, but.. God, was it beautiful.
"I'm sure you will be ecstatic to know," Undyne caught her breath and then began to speak again, her toothy smile softening and turning more thankful than anything else. Maybe she didn't have to be so frightful of everything that was going on, as long as she had her friends near her. Alphys still, however, was nowhere to be seen, but.. She would show eventually, she was sure. Undyne had so much faith in the little scientist - things would be okay soon. "Both Frisk and your brother are a-okay." She winked toward the little skeleton and gave a thumbs up, leaning back to resume her usual, lax posture with one of her hands in her jeans pocket.
"And this weird kid that looks like Frisk. Freaky, huh?"

“ Breathing a sigh of relief and putting a hand to his head, the affirmation that Papyrus and Frisk were fine was more than Sans hoped for. His grin was bigger than ever- just knowing they were OK gave him enough hope to keep going. Soon, they'd all be back together.
" * good to hear- that takes a load off. you have any idea where they went off to now? knowing papyrus, he might be on the hunt for everyone else. or making some cool puzzles. probably both. " The skeleton went back to his usual posture, hands in his pockets with a somewhat slumped posture. Sans wanted nothing more than to just be with all of his friends again now. A heavy weight had been lifted off his shoulders, knowing his brother and Frisk were fine. Things were going up, and it seemed like now everything was going their way. They were... kind of on the surface, which was fantastic. The shining, star-like stones in Waterfall weren't much compared to the glimmering sky of the surface. But for now, the situation just kept becoming more hopeful- what could possibly ruin-
A kid that looked like Frisk. A kid that looked like Frisk could possibly ruin everyone. Nope. Just at the idea, Sans' floating, white pupils momentarily disappeared, leaving his eyes as empty as the void for a second. Would it happen be the demon girl that went on and killed them all? Him, his brother, Undyne, and everyone he ever knew?... Probably.
Things just went from zero to a hundred real quick. That kid would kill them all again if she wasn't stopped. But Undyne was alive and kicking after an encounter with who he presumed to be Chara. A good sign. Heck, she might not be able to SAVE and RESET here. But if he found that little kid, well, if she was having fun, she'd better get ready to stop. " * ...yea, weird... maybe a twin or something? i dunno. " His response, albeit blunt, was stifled. Beads of sweat were hidden underneath his hood, but he had managed to keep up the casual act. His hands were still in his pockets, but they were clenched with a few miniscule sparks of blue magic flying off of them. Although he conveyed that he had no idea what was going on, Sans knew perfectly well what kind of threat lurked. If he was going to explain this to everyone someday, it wouldn't be easy. He'd have to tell them how they all died, how even he failed against them, how they could SAVE and RESET, and so on. It wouldn't be easy, but he would cross that bridge when he got there.” notes right in the funny bone.

so sorry for the wait omg
Undyne might not have been the sharpest knife in the drawer when it came to smarts and intelligence - that was Alphys' job - but it didn't take a genius to see Sans' demeanor change entirely as soon as the other kid was spoken of. All in all, it had been said to see if the skeleton knew about Chara, and it was obvious that.. He did. It was confusing, it was sad, but Undyne had vowed to make sure her friends were kept safe from that little monster. She had no idea of what the child had done in a separate timeline, however.
In that timeline, Undyne ceased to even exist because of that runt.
"I figured you might know something about her." The aquatic monster revealed the fact that her knowledge on Chara was more than she wished it was. She willed herself to be able to go back to thew way it was, to simply be happy about being with her friends but now she was plagued with a constant worry and the need to look over her shoulder ever ten minutes. Just to make sure that demon-possessed human wasn't right behind her, knife in hand and ready to strike. "Since you were gone longer than we were." Undyne could be abrasive, she could be overbearing, but right now, she felt pity for the brother of Papyrus.
He looked like he had seen the gates of hell time and time again, like.. He had faced something much rougher than the rest of them had. Undyne sighed softly, reaching forward and taking the hood of Sans' coat between her blue fingers and pulling it down in a sudden, swift motion. She could see sweat forming over the thick bone of his skull, an uncertain expression adorning his usually-grinning face.
"How much damage.. Has that kid done, Sans?" She asked carefully, knowing that the answer would probably be something she didn't want to hear. Although she had no recollection of the child back in her days of the Underground, there was this strange sense of dread that overwhelmed her when she was even spoken about, as though something awful had happened unbeknownst to her.
There was one thing, however, the shone through all of this uncertainty. Something that she was sure of with all of her being.
She wouldn't let it happen anymore.

“ " * ...you what. " Welp. He tried to hide it. Seeing your friends die time and time again and not being able to do a thing about it would suck the life out of anyone, clearly shown by the skeleton's expression at the mere mention of Chara. Sometimes things would turn out all happy, sometimes somewhere in between, and other times were absolute hell. All to only go right back to the beginning. Everyone forgot what happened before, but Sans slowly regained his memories of those lost timelines. He wished he could just forget like everyone else.
The skeleton had gained an inkling that the kid could have already snitched on him to Undyne, since she seemed to know that he knew some things. And indeed, he knew some things. It seemed like the others had been here some time after hearing Undyne's comment. His late arrival might have been due to his extended time in their world after everyone disappeared. Or something else. Those black things still were a lingering threat at the back of his mind, but that was for a later time.
His disconcerted expression due to his thoughts and fears coming into being was revealed when Undyne quickly went in to take his hood off, startling him a bit. He wasn't one to usually show emotional weakness, but the growing fear that things could end up like how they did once (or maybe twice?) before was upsetting. Who knows, it might end up permanent this time. He remained mute until Undyne asked that painful question.
"How much damage... Has that kid done, Sans?" Sans visibly cringed at the question as his pupils vanished, leaving his eyes as dark voids. Just saying Chara "killed everyone" would cause more questions to arise, like how they were all alive now if they did that. Then he'd have to explain the whole RESET thing. There was no way of sugarcoating the sins Chara committed. He'd like to brush aside the question, but the skeleton figured Undyne would get the answer out of him one way or another. Her determination was an admirable trait.
Crossing his arms, he regained some of his composure as his pupils reappeared in his eyes. He glanced over to the side just to make sure the kid wasn't there, but then brought his attention back to the head of the royal guard. Papyrus' brother avoided eye contact while speaking for a short while, but managed to meet eyes with Undyne, his expression lightened, but still very uneasy and apprehensive. " * well... theres no easy way of putting what she did. trust me on this one, it was something you should be glad you dont remember. but if you really want to know... i wont keep it from you, even though id really like to not even think about it. "
” notes It's fine, life's more important most of the time. Take your time~ *muffled megalovania*

This entire predicament was turning out to be much more serious than Undyne had even originally perceived. Sure, she had thought of Chara as a bit of an annoyance and a nuisance that needed to be taken care of, but Sans was acting as though something quite dire had happened unbeknownst to her. The Captain of the Royal Guard was a little perplexed by that notion, as she was under the assumption that she was aware of most everything that happened in Asgore's kingdom.
A disturbing, sickly feeling was beginning to grow in the pit of her stomach. Sans was always one to remain relaxed no matter the situation, and the fact that the skeleton was obviously in some state of discomfort about all of this was... Unnerving, to say the least. Undyne took into consideration that Sans verbally stated that he was uncomfortable talking about the whole ordeal, but she couldn't help but think that it would be smarter for them both to be in the know - then maybe they would both be able to do something about it.
"God - I'm sorry," She sighed out the words, bringing one of her blue hands to the back of her head to scratch through her red hair nervously. Her chest heaved with the outtake of breath, her eyes shifting to the side before moving back to the smaller monster in front of her to make that non-physical contact. "I do wanna know, but... You don't have to tell me now." The warrior squatted down a bit to make their heights much more even, smiling kindly to her apprentice's brother.
"Whatever happened... You're safe now, okay? We're gonna take care of this."

“ Sans breathed a small sigh of relief, calming down with some weight off his back. Seems like he could hold off talking about this for a little longer, but now he knew he'd have to speak up about Chara sooner or later. " * ill talk about it when we round up most of the others. i dont want to have to repeat something like this. for now, im just going to say that shes killed more than you can imagine." Leaving out the fact of his own and everyone else's deaths, Sans was somewhat relieved he didn't have to talk about the genocide of the monsters. But he knew he was just postponing the inevitable. If he had to talk about it, best to just say it once and get it all out to everyone.
" * but whatever you do, i dont suggest fighting that kid. she can and will try to kill you- and trust me on this one, shes a lot stronger than she looks. if you see her, just get out of there. " Combined with her high Level of Violence and SAVE system, Chara was an essentially an immortal, walking, killing machine. She'd keep trying until her enemy was killed, and Sans knew how that worked first-hand. Heck, if she couldn't SAVE and LOAD, the kid would have died a long time ago, probably to Undyne's hands in that timeline.
" * we should really find the others soon. if papyrus came across her... well... i dont like to think of what might happen. " Sans would not let his brother die again to Chara's dusty hands. That was for certain. She wouldn't kill them again, as long as he still stood. Sans knew he was powerless to stop her. She'd just reload. But if the others could get somewhere where the child wouldn't be able to get them, stalling would be worth it.
" when we at least relocate papyrus and frisk, ill get into to the details of all... this. " Telling all of his friends of their own deaths, RESETS, and much more was going to be a big hurdle. He had just accepted that he was powerless to stop the time loop, but now, maybe, just maybe, he was finally free from all that. But Sans didn't get his hopes up, for all he knew, it could just be a matter of time before he woke up back in Snowdin.”

The poor guy had been through too much to have been able to come out of his completely unscathed. His bones, t this point, where probably worn down and down from exhaustion from being pushed for so long in a dire situation. Undyne had been there before, where she had felt her body caving in on her due to lack of sleep and not being able to handle things as adequately as she maybe could have.
Her heart and soul were going out for Sans, a gentle smile appearing on her face as she thought of all of them being able to reunite and be together even after such horrible and traumatizing events, albeit.. Undyne had no real recollection of what Sans was speaking about. She was sure that, however, she would find out all in good time. Take things slow, one day at a time, one step at a time, one breath at a time right now. She knew from experience, that in times like this, it was much better to be safe than sorry.
Not only did she have to protect her life, but she had to protect so many other monsters that were thrown into this without knowing what was going on. Children were probably separated from their parents, people tossed away from their families, not knowing where to go or what to do to find each other again...
"C'mon." Undyne moved back up to her full height, placing one of her hands at her hip and moving her head in a motion that non-verbally told Sans for him to follow her. "I'll take you back to your brother. He's been dying to see you."
She began to walk away from the station, making sure that the short skeleton wasn't far behind. She knew that he would need time to recover and sleep some of this anxiety off - if he was surrounded by people who loved him, then things would surely become a bit more relaxed.
"It's.. Gonna be okay."
[End]
