♡NOTES: yes. i have needed this interaction for so long now. life is good. :'D
Today had been relatively uneventful. The recent events that had been going on in the little Nobody's life were running him ragged. Axel was having to deal with so many internal conflicts, Vanitas, Hikari and Namine had joined him at the castle, and sometimes, Sora would come over as well and would give Roxas his usual "lessons" on how to be his own person. It usually consisted in the two of them switching outfits (Sora thought it was a good idea) and trying to talk as each other in some strange form of roleplay. It ended up in the both of them laughing and giving up, running to Axel and begging for him to go make them something to eat. The redhead, of course, easily obliged to whatever they desired.
Roxas had already gone out to survey the worlds, making sure that nothing was out of the ordinary. Of course it was impossible to visit them all, but he would scout the ones that he hadn't been to in what seemed like a lifetime, get rid of some of the Heartless there, and would then simply move on to the next location. Things moved slowly, but at least he was getting the job done, with the help of his friends, of course. One keyblade couldn't do all the work, he had come to find. One would think he would have realized that back in the days of the Organization, but the poor thing was so accustomed to taking the entire work load on himself.
Working as a team wasn't a skill admistered by Xemnas, because that was the opposite of what he wanted. Roxas shook his head, trying to keep his thoughts averted from such things. Today had been a good day, and he didn't need to ruin it by changing his mood with thoughts in that category.
The boy had decided to spend the rest of his day at Destiny Islands, since when he returned to the castle, everybody was seemingly still out and about. The Nobody, every now and then, liked to go to the islands and look out at the sea. It was a reminder of the life that was in his past, and to his dear friend who he still had not been able to locate since he and Axel awoke not too long ago. Xion was nowhere to be seen, but he tried his best to retain hope that they would find her soon.
Roxas sat atop the crooked tree that housed the star-shaped fruit, the trunk making the perfect bench for anyone wishing to do a little sightseeing. The mainland was off in the distance, looking as brilliant as ever from so far away. The sun was just beginning to dip below the horizon, creating a beautiful and idealistic sunset; fit for a postcard. Roxas sighed with a bit of a melancholy smile adorning his features, wishing that he had both Axel and Xion here to admire it with him...
Soon. He nodded to himself and tried to wipe that sadness away.
We'll get her back soon. [newclass=.tiabox]opacity:0;transition:.6s all linear;[/newclass] [newclass=.tiacon:hover .tiabox]opacity:1[/newclass]

"i'm ready for the change, meet me in blue sky"
| It had been a good while since the last time Riku had set foot on the island. At least it felt like it had been so long but had it really? The time had been all muddled in the dream worlds and days passed so easily while in the other worlds. He shook his head and scuffed a shoe through the sand. A lot had changed in his life, yet the island seemed the same. It was soothing and yet at every turn he was reminded that things were so different. Riku started at the open palm of his right hand for a long moment. Keyblade Master? That was a title that had no right to be associated with him. He'd just jumped into that dream to save his best friend. How could he just leave Sora there? He was being rewarded for being a decent human being. It was nothing special.
If only Sora was here to distract Riku from his own mind. The brunette's excited chatter and penchant for finding trouble kept him reasonably distracted. Yet he was alone with nothing but the sound of the surf and the wind in the trees. Why had he come back to Destiny Island? Nostalgia? Worry? He was a masochist deep down? In any case he wasn't finding a walk along the beach as relaxing as he'd been hoping. Riku wandered a little further toward the familiar dipping curve of an old palm tree.
He wasn't expecting to see someone sitting on it though. Riku narrowed his eyes and slowed down, trying to figure out just who it was. The darkness couldn't be trying to make a move on Destiny Island could it? Well it might as well be considering it was an organization thirteen member. Roxas. He might be Sora's nobody and the two got along quite well but... Riku had kind of sort of been avoiding him. Well not quite avoiding but not exactly going out of his way to talk to the blond. Considering the last and only time they'd ever met he'd kicked Roxas's ass and gave in to the darkness and it had been a huge mess.
Roxas didn't look like he'd noticed Riku yet so he could still escape. It was tempting but also the cowards way out and he wasn't a coward. Sighing Riku moved forward catching sight of a less than happy look on the blonds face. The teen found himself just a little worried. So sue him, he couldn't help but be a worrier and make sure everyone staid safe and happy. Even if they had been an enemy at some point.
"Hey" Riku gave a rough sounding greeting but moved in close enough to put a hand on the tree and lean against it to get a better look. "You okay?"

A sudden turn in events wasn't something that Roxas saw coming for him in the near future. He thought that he had been completely worn out to the aspect of people from the past that were connected to him and that all of his "surprise" reserves on the matter were run dry. Of course, he was left to be proved wrong when he felt a presence behind him. It felt too familiar, so much so that he didn't allow himself to turn around just yet. He waited until he heard the voice, swallowing a heap of his own saliva through his nervousness.
Hey,
The boy froze, staring at at the ocean with eyes that matched its color. The sunset washed over his pale face and made his expression quite obvious, but he didn't have the energy to attempt to hide it from the silver-haired teen behind him.
You okay?
How was he supposed to answer that? Half of him felt as though he was seeing a long-lost friend that he hadn't seen for what felt like a life-time, whilst the other half of him was angered and felt extreme betrayal tied to the new keyblade master. He remembered what it was like being plastered to the ground after being defeated the way he was, and the only way it happened was because the darkness was brought into their battle. But, the blond boy couldn't blame him entirely. He had been so blinded with his rage at that point in time that he didn't see how illogical he was being.
"...Yeah." He couldn't even bring himself to break his gaze with the oceanic sunset. Not yet. The urge to look down was strong, but for some reason, the emptiness in his chest was not allowing him to do so. When he finally broke the hold that the said sensation had on him and he was able to turn his head, looking at Riku and seeing him for what felt like the very first time.
He could see into his seafoam eyes, which was something the black blindfold was hiding their first encounter. He could look in and see that there was, in fact, a person in there, and that person had simply missed their dearest friend at the time and.. Was doing anything in their power to get the friend back. Roxas couldn't say much - he was on his way to do the same thing when they had confronted each other.
"Are you.. Okay?" [newclass=.tiabox]opacity:0;transition:.6s all linear;[/newclass] [newclass=.tiacon:hover .tiabox]opacity:1[/newclass]

"i'm ready for the change, meet me in blue sky"
| Riku wasn't sure what exactly to do next. It wasn't like one tried to start a conversation with a former enemy every day. The bad guys tended to just spout off about whatever their plans were. Roxas refused to meet his gaze and left Riku to wonder if his presence was even wanted.
He followed the blonds gaze out toward the horizon. It was pretty but there was rarely a time when it wasn't on the island. To him it was nothing special but maybe for Roxas it was. In his own time with the darkness Riku had never experienced sunsets quite like this, not that the nobody seemed all that happy in general right at the moment. He backed of just a bit half ready to turn and leave. The past between them wasn't the best and maybe it was just better to leave things as they were. Oh how he wanted to apologize and at least try but Riku wasn't one to push, especially when it came to the more... emotional and awkward things.
Getting a response from Roxas surprised him and Riku jerked his gaze back up to stare at the nobody. The blond continued to speak confirming that he hadn't just misheard. "Uh..." He shifted nervously as Roxas looked at him. Last time there had been a blindfold between them and the others gaze felt more intense than it had any right to be. Riku shifted a little closer and willed himself to stay put and not flee like the coward he'd once been.
"I uh... yeah I'm fine." His voice sounded weak and pathetic even in his own ears but he refused to cringe. Instead Riku offered a half smile. If Roxas wasn't trying to cut off any of his limbs maybe there was a chance to work past their last meeting. And that was a very big maybe.

The resposne that he got from Riku was one that could have been easily expected from the new keyblade master. Roxas, although he had never known Riku personally, knew that the boy could tend to be very reserved and extremely emotionally awkward on most cases, but.. The blond couldn't really hold anything against him because of it. Hell, he was a Nobody, and although Riku claimed to be the biggest nobody of them all, he had a heart, and he would never be able to match up to anything like that.
It was a good thing, really.
"That's good." He responded automatically, changing his gaze from the other teen back to the oceanic view. His eyes glimmered in response to the twilight display directly in front of him, and Sora's counterpart took in a deep breath of the sea air. It was comforting, giving him nostalgia of memories that weren't his own, but they still were able to make him happy. Hearing Riku's voice in such a non-threatening situation was... A little strange, to top it off. It brought back so many things of Sora and Riku's playful rivalry and how much the two cherished each other.
In a way, it reminded Roxas of how he was with both Axel and Xion back in the days of the Organization, but then he was met with the thought of.. Was what he felt real in the slightest? Or was that simply Sora's shadow cast over him, a display of the other boy's personality slowly fading into the blank slate that was the little Nobody's entire existence? What about now? Without thinking, Roxas suddenly scooted over on the tree, making room for Riku to sit next to him. He could enjoy the company, and there was.. A large sense of calamity that was washing over him just by being in the other's presence.
"About.. What happened. I wanted to say that I - uh - I'm sorry." The boy admitted, glancing over at the silver-haired keybearer and giving a delicate smile. He wasn't Sora, but sometimes, the look in his eyes was so similar that it made an almost-identical match. "I guess I wasn't thinking straight."
